1. I am female candidate. I want to join in Coast Guard as an officer. What is the criteria?
Ans : There is a category Assistant Commandant(General Duty). Male and Female both are eligible.Age is 21 – 25 years. +5 years for SC/ST and =3 years for OBC candidate. Graduation from recognized university with min 60%. And min 60% in 12 with Physics and maths.
2. I am BA with 70%want to join in coast guard as an officer? Can I join?
Ans : Any candidate who has passed Bachelor Degree with min 60% is eligible subject to he must have passed 12th with Physics and maths obtaining 60% minimum.
3. I am B.Sc. with Physics and Maths got 58% marks. Can I join as a Coast Guard Officer?
Ans : Yes, you can join. Candidate has to get min 55% in B.Sc. with physics and maths for Assistant Commandant (Pilot/Navigator) subject to he must have passed with Physics and Maths in 10+2 with 60%. This is for male and female both Age 19 to 27 years and + 5 years for SC/ST and +3 years for OBC.
4. I am having Commercial Pilot Licience? Can I apply for Pilot in Coast Guard?
Ans : Yes –Assistant Commandant(Short Service Commission) The candidate passed XII or equivalent with min 60% marks in 10+2+3 scheme and should possess current Commercial Pilot License on the date of selection. Male/Female can apply. Initial service for 8 years and extendable upto 10 and 14 years. Age 19 to 27 years and + 5 years for SC/ST and +3 years for OBC.
5. I am marine engineer. Can I join Coast Guard? Pl suggest criteria?
Ans : Yes. Only Male Candidate is eligible for a post Assistant Commandant (Technical) in Coast Guard. One must obtain min 60% marks in B.E.(Mechanical, Electronic, Electrical, Telecommunication, Design, Production, Aeronautical etc and 60% in 12 with physics and maths. Age 21 to 30 years and + 5 years for SC/ST and +3 years for OBC.
6. I am law graduate and 26 years of age. Am I eligible for Coast Guard Officer?
Ans : There is post Deputy Commandant(Law) for male and female. One must have Degree in law legal matters. Should be qualified as an advocate for High Court.
Age limit below 27 years age. Maritime law desirable.
7. What is the Procedure for application in Coast Guard?
Ans : The advertisement for recruitment of Assistant Commandant is published in leading news paper twice in year Jan/Feb & Aug/Sep. Shortlisted candidates are called for Primary Selection Board (PSB) as per their choice of Centres Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Coachi, Vizag and Port Blair. PCB consists of Mental Ability Test and Picture Perception and Discussion (Discrptive)Test (PPDT). Candidates who qualify PCB will be called for Final Selection Board(FSB) at Mumbai / Chennai / Delhi. The candidates subject to medical fitness are selected as per meritlist.
8. What is the duty in Technical Branch?
Ans : Modern Ships and air crafts are having advance technology and machinery. You will be responsible to keep all these equipments servicelable. Specific technical training will also be given to you.
9. What is the duty of Pilot in Coast Guard?
Ans : Indian Coast Guard operates fixed wing air craft from shore Air Station for surveillance of Economic zones or costal areas. In addition helicopters are earmarked for patrolling, search and rescue mission.
10. What is the General Duty Branch?
Ans : This is the operational branch of the Indian Coast Guard. As a General Duty Branch officer you will operate weapons, sensors and perform the command function which require wide sphere of knowledge of equipments. Safety of your ship and men in war time or peace time is yours responsibility.
